BALA LAND 2

Sequels don't always live up to the promise of an original. Rekindling the surprise, the excitement, the chemistry of the first time through is a challenge in life and in art. So we thought long and hard before deciding to produce a re-imagined version of last year's wildly successful Bala Land.
Could we develop new music that would connect with our audience like last year? We could do better.
Could we marshal the brilliant instrumentaland vocal solo talent that was so dazzling last year? Check.
Could we bring our 40 member orchestra to the same level of preparation as we did in our first Bala Land production? Check and double check!

Please join us March 2nd and 3rd as we revisit Bala Land - better the second time around.

Since the film was to be based on Leo Tolstoy's short story "Two Hussars", Bernard had a notion to include in it, some Russian music. Vernon made arrangements for us to meet Bernard and Julia, to introduce ourselves and our music to them. We met at the beautiful and cozy house on Kings Rd. and played a few arrangements from our repertoire.

TARAS YANYTSKY

The bandura is considered the national instrument of Ukraine. It is a multi-stringed folk instrument with a history dating back to the seventh century. Extremely popular among the Ukrainian Cossacks, it was adopted by the “Kobzari”, itinerant blind minstrels who travelled the countryside singing epic ballads about the heroic exploits of the Cossacks. Although the Kobzari have since disappeared, the legacy of their music has survived, and is currently undergoing a renaissance.
